October 25Our Place – The Right PlaceIt can be a little hard to find -- and it’s often crowded -- but Our Place is well worth the effort. Open for breakfast and lunch, Our Place is a cute diner with great food and even better service. Its a real family restaurant – you feel like part of the family when you visit. The selection is good – meaning that our gang of carnivores and veggies all have options to choose from. This morning I enjoyed the Ham and Cheese omelet with Peppy, and Dippy had her personal favorite – the Fried Egg Sandwich. Located in-between Cutting Edge Kites and the Wine Shoppe, across from the Holiday Inn – it’s time to make Our Place … Your Place!6:07 PM GMT | Read comments(1)October 23Shrimp Boat DeliIf you want to eat right next to the beach – then the Shrimp Boat Deli is the place for you. Many of the restaurants in downtown Ocean Shores are pretty far from the beach (part of the West beach is also a highway – shocking at first until you realize how convenient this is) – and offer indoor-only seating. The Shrimp Boat Deli is on the South beach – small and personal, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. All seats have a view of the surf – overlooking the North Jetty and Westport. Food at the SBD is fresh – nothing fried. Shrimp cocktail, oyster chowder, shrimp sandwiches, nachos, and pizza are among my favorites. Kids can order the “sandwich in a bucket” meal (they keep the bucket), and adults can enjoy a small variety of beers with their meal (they keep the beer belly). Our gang loves to wander and play on the beach by Damon State Park, then finish up by walking right into the Deli on Marine View Drive for some delightful food and conversation with the owners and staff. Snuggler’s Cove Resort next door has the same owners – a wonderfully unique Ocean Shores location if you want to walk right on to the beach from the back deck. Note: Winter hours are “relaxed” as they are with most shops in Ocean Shores. 9:11 PM GMT | Read comments(1)October 22Buddy & Howie's Old Fashioned Sweet ShoppeAhhh – candy stores. Gotta love ‘em. Buddy & Howie’s has turned into a regular stop for us. Just as we’re leaving the ocean area and heading back into the big city – we stop at Buddy & Howie’s to celebrate “Candy Day”. Buddy & Howie’s is located on the West side of Pt. Brown Ave, right next to Las Maracas Mexican Restaurant. They have candies from the “good ol’ days”, plus many modern favorites to please kids like Hippy and Peppy. Give yourself a treat! My personal favorites are the milk chocolate malt balls. Mmmm – huge – way bigger than “Whoppers” – with much more chocolate. 9:21 PM GMT | Read comments(1)October 21Ocean Shores Shark Site Is Coming Along…Well, I’m a few days into it, and I’ve got many of the pages and site structure started and a few pages completed. The gang had a look and gave me some feedback. I’ve changed the avatars as a result – Peppy and Hippy wanted something a little different to represent them. They also convinced me to set up a page dedicated to what kids like to do in Ocean Shores. That will be coming online soon…1:00 AM GMT | Read comments(0)October 19The Gang Hippy.
